My favorite time of year...
The Academy Awards. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
Let's call it now: the first major trend of the night was RED! Red in every shade, in every style and almost everyone did it right...
Heidi Klum - It kind of reminds me of a vampire cape? Right? I don't know. Not everyone can pull off a crazy John Galliono dress but I almost think a supermodel like Heidi Klum definitely can. I hate the matchy pink/red earrings and hot pink purse.

Miley Cyrus - Don't get me wrong. I think she's annoying. The Hannah Montana thing is out of control. Her smoker's voice KILLS me but I've got to say...she looks better than usual. Age appropriate in Valentino! The statement earrings are a great choice. Her hair isn't disgusting with tons of extensions, it's simple and pulled back into a low ponytail.

Helen Mirren - For an older woman, Helen Mirren always does it right. Elegant, age appropriate but NEVER boring.

Anne Hathaway - Gorgeous in Marchesa! It has the trendy rosettes, simple jewelry and I think the shade of red is absolutely stunning with her skin tone and hair color.

Katherine Heigl - I love her Escada dress. Her make-up? Not so much. Her make-up artist should have stopped putting on the bronzer awhile back. Her overall look is very Old Hollywood as always. At least she sticks to a theme! Haha.

Major Trend #2: strapless dresses. I think this is a recurring trend from last year. Strapless dresses with mermaid tails. It's classic and flattering...but I'm pretty over it.
Penelope Cruz - in Chanel Haute Couture

Amy Adams - in Proenza Schouler.

Kerri Russel - in Nina Ricci. She is a minimalist and she stuck to that but at least she added a great necklace.

Cameron Diaz - I'm just not a big fan of hers. She rarely makes me go "WOW!" which is surprising considering Rachel Zoe is her stylist. She's wearing Dior but it's structured tafetta....she wore structured tafetta last year. She's not even wearing any good jewelry pieces! Whatever.

Jessica Alba - She looks radiant. Must be the pregnancy. Marchesa again...yay. Frothy, feminine, nice color, flattering for her belly. I HATE the huge gold earrings. They remind me of tacky earrings from the early 90's.

Renee Zellweger - Uggggh. Can she stop making that face? And stop wearing colors that wash her out. Take a lesson from Nicole Kidman, someone who is also very pale but always wears vibrant colors. I'd bet MONEY this dress is Carolina Herrera.

Honorable mentions/other:
Jennifer Hudson - Her Roberto Cavalli has snakeskin detailing. Relatively different from everyone else. So props to her.

Marion Cortillard - in Jean Paul Gaultier. The definition of mermaid dress. She literally looks like she's wearing scales. Interesting jewelry choice.

Hilary Swank - in Atelier Versace.

Amy Ryan - in Calvin Klein. I like it for two reasons: 1) It's navy. My favorite color. 2) It's one-shouldered. But honestly it's very, very simple = boring.

Nicole Kidman - I can't really tell what's going on with her Balenciaga gown. But that necklace. OMG...wow!

Cate Blanchett - in Dries Van Noten. She can wear anything. Period.

A few of the men, my favorites: Patrick Dempsey, Johnny Depp and James McAvoy! LOOOVE.

My FAVORITE of the night is....[drum roll, please]: Jennifer Garner!
She is stunning. Head to toe. The Oscar de La Renta dress was black and strapless but it has amazing details. Her hair is freaking awesome, the way the bangs frame her face. The jewelry was complimentary and gorgeous. [Alright...I'm biased. I adore her!]
Everyone played it safe. More updates as I find pictures. :)
